Fall special was a blow out!

August 20, 2009

Glencross23This morning I sent out an email offering $99 sitting fees to the first 25 respondants.  The special sold out in three hours!  So many people just missed the cut-off that I sent out a second email offering $125 sitting fees to the next 25 respondants.  But that’s it!  If you miss out on this one, I’ll see you at the regular rate!

Painless Photoshoots

August 18, 2009

McMurtry13Photoshoots can be stressful.  You want to pad your children for a week prior to the appointment so they don’t get a black eye or an unsightly goose-egg on their forehead.  You want them to get a good night’s sleep.  You want them to wake up happy and smiley and you hope when they get there they will be pleasant and playful and full of personality.  In short, you are hoping for perfection.  I know this hope.  And having two kids of my own, I am all-too familiar with the expression “the best laid plans. . .”.

“Painless Photoshoots” will be a reoccuring blog post to give you tips on how to make things run as smoothly as possible.  And just remember, the pictures almost always come out great, no matter how crazy and chaotic the experience seemed at the time!

Fresh Perspectives 2009 . . . my life inside a spreadsheet

August 12, 2009
Submission overload

Submission overload

A little background first. . .

Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the cultivation of the photographic arts and the enrichment of the Atlanta art community.

ACP hosts an annual, citywide photography festival in October: the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival. The festival includes a wide variety of exhibitions and multiple events around Atlanta and throughout the surrounding communities. The festival’s diverse offerings bring together professional and amateur photographers, general art enthusiasts, gallery owners, critics, and collectors.

This October, Snapdragon Photography is presenting “Fresh Perspectives 2009” – an exhibition of the best emerging photography in the region.  Amy Miller, executive director of ACP, is the juror for the show.  She will choose every piece that will hang, and from those finalists two winners will be selected and invited to show a collection of work in the gallery in 2010.

The deadline for submissions was Monday, and the entries came pouring in right to the last minute!  I have spent all of my waking hours this week cataloging the submissions and all of my nights dreaming of being trapped inside an excel spreadsheet.

Amy Miller will be doing a preliminary pass-through of the submissions this week – I think she is going to be impressed – there is a lot of amazing photography out there!
